The Minister of Lands, Housing, and Human Settlements Development, Jerry Silaa, has announced a nationwide ban on plot sellers who advertise their business through street billboards. He has given land officers seven days to remove these billboards, emphasizing that the government cannot tolerate situations where citizens are being defrauded.
This directive follows Minister Silaa's hearing of complaints from citizens accusing Digital Auction LTD of selling them plots in an area the company does not own, amassing TZS 166 million. Silaa stated, "You cannot sell a plot through a map; a plot is sold with a title deed. The government cannot remain silent while citizens suffer and are defrauded of their money."
The Minister has called on companies selling plots to establish sales desks in district and regional land offices to ensure transparency and efficiency in the sales process. He also urged regional assistant land commissioners to expedite the issuance of title deeds and emphasized that land companies wishing to sell plots from their offices must apply for title deeds for the plots they survey.
This measure aims to protect citizens from fraud and ensure that the land sale process is conducted transparently and in accordance with the law. The government is committed to curbing fraudulent activities in the land sector to safeguard citizens' rights and ensure sustainable development in housing.
