Tanzania's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Energy, Dr. Doto Biteko, has extended an invitation to investors in the energy sector to help accelerate the production, distribution, and connection of energy in the country.
Speaking today in Singapore during a panel discussion on energy, which included Cambodia's Minister for Mines and Energy, Mr. Keo Rottanak, and New Zealand's Minister for Natural Resources, Mr. Shane Jones, Dr. Biteko emphasized the importance of public-private partnerships in advancing Tanzania's energy sector.
"Governments cannot do everything on their own, which is why it is crucial to collaborate with the private sector. In Tanzania, we invite private investors to contribute to energy production, availability, and distribution in order to improve the quality of life for the people," Dr. Biteko remarked during the opening of Singapore's International Energy Week.
Dr. Biteko also highlighted Tanzania's efforts to promote clean cooking energy, following research revealing that a significant portion of the population relies on firewood and charcoal for cooking. This reliance, he said, is contributing to respiratory illnesses and environmental degradation.
To address these challenges, the government has developed a strategy aimed at ensuring that 80% of Tanzanians will use clean cooking energy by 2034, Dr. Biteko added.
The remarks underscore Tanzania's commitment to energy sector reform and its vision for sustainable development.
