Dr. Tulia Ackson, President of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) and Speaker of the Parliament of Tanzania, officially opened the 149th IPU General Assembly today, October 14, 2024, at the International Conference Centre (CICG) in Geneva.
The key theme of the assembly is "Harnessing Science, Technology, and Innovation for the Future of Peace and Sustainability." The meeting aims to address how advancements in these fields can contribute to global peace and sustainable development.
The assembly has attracted around 1,500 participants, including speakers, deputy speakers, delegation leaders, and members of parliament from various countries.
The conference will conclude on October 17, 2024, with resolutions focused on addressing pressing global challenges currently facing the world.
