Nairobi, Kenya. Kenyan President William Ruto has dismissed nearly his entire cabinet following weeks of anti-government protests. Announced from State House Nairobi, only Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi remain in their posts.
President Ruto cited a “holistic appraisal” of his cabinet and the high expectations of the Kenyan people as reasons for the sweeping changes. He expressed his commitment to forming a “broad-based” new government through “extensive consultations” across various sectors and political formations.
The decision follows a period of intense political unrest triggered by a controversial tax bill, which led to violent protests and several deaths. In response, Ruto withdrew the Finance Bill at the end of June.
Ruto aims to implement radical programs focusing on debt management, job creation, reducing government waste, and combating corruption. He assured that government operations would continue uninterrupted and promised further announcements soon.
