SIERRA LEONE BANS CHILD MARRIAGE AS PRESIDENT BIO SIGNS NEW LAW.

Freetown, Sierra Leone

Sierra Leone has joined the ranks of countries successfully banning child marriages worldwide, following President Julius Maada Bio's signing of a new law that officially prohibits such practices.

According to Girls Not Brides, approximately 12 million girls under the age of 18 are married each year globally. This alarming statistic is driven by inadequate child protection laws, cultural traditions, and customs in certain countries.

President Bio's enactment of this law represents a significant step towards protecting children's rights and ensuring their well-being in Sierra Leone. The new legislation aims to combat the root causes of child marriage and provide a safer future for young girls across the nation.
