Kagera, Tanzania. Regional Commissioners across Tanzania have been instructed to carry out operations to apprehend unlicensed traditional and alternative medicine practitioners involved in superstitious practices that lead to violence against people with albinism.
This directive was issued by the Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office for Labor, Youth, Employment, and Persons with Disabilities, Hon. Deogratius Ndejembi, in Kagera during the launch of a campaign against violence towards people with albinism. The campaign slogan was “I Stand with Mama Samia Suluhu Hassan in Opposing Violence Against People with Albinism.”
Additionally, Hon. Ndejembi urged the Regional Commissioners to ensure that anti-violence campaigns against people with albinism are conducted in all municipalities and that committees for people with disabilities are strengthened in their regions, as required by the Persons with Disabilities Act No. 19 of 2010.
