The Minister for Minerals, Hon. Anthony Mavunde, has called on Tanzanians involved in the mining sector value chain to take advantage of the significant opportunity presented by the purchase of goods and services in the mining industry. In the 2023/24 fiscal year, a total of TZS 3.1 trillion has been allocated for the procurement of goods and services in this sector.
Minister Mavunde officially launched the Association of Service Providers and Suppliers in Mining (TAMISA) yesterday in Dar es Salaam. He expressed his delight in the commitment to quality shown by Tanzanians in the industry and urged them to continue upholding these standards. He emphasized the importance of collaboration and mutual support among stakeholders to strengthen their presence in the mining sector.
"Investment in Tanzania's mining sector is growing day by day, thanks to the favorable investment environment established by the government under the leadership of President Dr. Samia S. Hassan. This association will provide a unified voice to empower Tanzanians and enhance their competitiveness in providing services and supplying products to the mining industry," Mavunde said.
He further expressed his desire to see the TZS 3.1 trillion remain in the hands of Tanzanians, thus boosting the national economy by establishing factories to produce products and services in high demand in the mining sector.
"I commend TAMISA for implementing my directives on establishing this association of service providers and suppliers in the mining industry. I expect you to be a successful platform for the private sector in Tanzania," Mavunde added.
In his opening remarks, TAMISA Chairman Mr. Peter Kumalilwa mentioned that the association aims to bring together service providers and suppliers in the mining sector, advise the government on building the capacity of Tanzanians to benefit from the mining sector, and collaborate with the government to address fundamental issues related to local content.
Delivering remarks on behalf of the private sector, TPSF Board Member and Chairman of the Service Cluster, Mr. Octavian Mshiu, praised President Samia's efforts to attract investment and grow the private sector in the country. He assured that TPSF would stand shoulder to shoulder with all stakeholders to ensure Tanzanians seize the economic opportunities in the mining sector.
