Ethiopian Athletes Shine at 2024 Berlin Marathon

Ethiopian athletes dominated the 2024 Berlin Marathon on Sunday, with Milkesa Mengesha winning the men's race in a personal best time of just over 2 hours and 3 minutes. Mengesha led a strong Ethiopian presence on the podium, alongside Haymanot Alew, who finished third after narrowly missing second place to Kenya's Cybrian Kotut.

In the women's race, Ethiopia's Tigist Ketema secured victory with a time of 2 hours, 16 minutes, and 42 seconds. Her compatriots, Mestawut Fikir and Bosena Mulatie, completed an Ethiopian sweep by taking second and third places.

This year marked the first edition of the marathon without either Kenya's Eliud Kipchoge or Ethiopia's Kenenisa Bekele, who had participated since 2014. A record-breaking 58,000 runners from 161 nations took part in the event.
