Zanzibar President Dr. Hussein Ali Mwinyi has launched the Geological and Mineral Research Report, a collaborative effort between Tanzania’s Geological Survey of Tanzania (GST) and Zanzibar’s Ministry of Water, Energy, and Minerals (WMNMZ).
The report, unveiled on September 12, 2024, at the Golden Tulip Hotel, identifies mineral types and their locations across the islands. President Mwinyi praised the experts' work and emphasized that the findings will benefit key sectors such as mining, energy, water, construction, agriculture, education, health, and tourism.
He urged the ministry to share the report with relevant institutions for national economic growth and called for continued research to explore new opportunities. Certificates were awarded to participating researchers as a gesture of appreciation.
Minister for Minerals Anthony Mavunde noted the research's potential to attract investment and boost Zanzibar’s economy. Minister Shaibu Kaduara highlighted the need for further exploration to assess the mineral reserves fully.
