Azam FC's Early Exit from CAF Champions League Sparks Calls for Change

Following Azam FC's elimination from the CAF Champions League after a 3-1 aggregate loss to Rwanda's APR, the club's spokesperson, Hasheem Ibwe, admitted that the team has brought disappointment and embarrassment to the nation.

Ibwe openly acknowledged the team's underperformance, stating, "We have let down our fans and the entire nation. We’ve been a disgrace in front of a team we could have beaten both at home and away."

Despite Azam FC's strong potential, the team failed to secure victory, losing 2-0 in Rwanda and only managing a 1-0 win at home. Ibwe emphasized the need for significant changes within the team, expressing determination for a stronger comeback: "I’m not asking for forgiveness today, nor making excuses. We need to change. Soon, you will see a different Azam—one that scores more and becomes a real threat."

With Azam FC out, Yanga is now the sole representative of Tanzania in the competition, having advanced with an impressive 10-0 aggregate win over Burundi’s Vital’O.
