The government has reaffirmed its commitment to collaborating with the Tanzania People's Defence Force (JWTZ) in promoting traditional music and dance as a means to create opportunities in the arts and preserve cultural heritage.
Speaking at the opening of the Chief of Defence Forces Cultural Competition in Dar es Salaam, Deputy Minister for Culture, Arts, and Sports Hamis Mwinjuma emphasized that while the arts serve as entertainment, they also represent a significant employment opportunity for the youth. The government, he said, will do everything possible to work alongside JWTZ to enhance the arts sector in the country.
On his part, Major General Marco Gaguti, Head of the Military Personnel Branch, reiterated that JWTZ will continue to uphold the country's cultural traditions to ensure they are not lost.
The Chief of Defence Forces Cultural Competition, which features 10 music bands and nine traditional dance groups, is set to conclude on August 30, 2024.
