The ongoing flagship projects in Mwanza Region are a testament to the government's unwavering commitment to improving connectivity in the Lake Zone and its neighboring countries. These key infrastructure initiatives include the Kigongo-Busisi Bridge, the MV ‘Hapa Kazi Tu’ ship, and the Mwanza-Isaka section of the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR).
The Kigongo-Busisi Bridge, which stretches 3.2 kilometers, is now 90 percent complete. When President Samia Suluhu Hassan assumed office in 2021, the project was only 20 percent complete. Upon completion, this bridge will play a crucial role in enhancing transportation by linking Misungwi and Sengerema across Lake Victoria.
Additionally, the MV ‘Hapa Kazi Tu,’ a new ship designed for Lake Victoria, is also nearing completion. This vessel is expected to further boost connectivity and economic activities in the region.
