French football star Kylian Mbappé is reportedly demanding €55 million from his former club, Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), for unpaid wages and bonuses. The claim includes a bonus promised when he joined the club in 2017, his last three months' wages, and an additional "ethical bonus," according to French media outlet Le Monde.
The 2018 World Cup champion referred the matter to the legal committee of the Clubs' Association in early August. By mid-August, Mbappé escalated the issue to UEFA through the French Football Federation.
PSG, owned by Qatari interests, received a formal notice but maintains that the amount in question was not paid because both parties had reached an agreement. According to PSG, Mbappé had agreed to forgo the money if he left the club on a free transfer.
This dispute has been ongoing for nearly a year, stemming from Mbappé's decision not to activate a contract extension option that would have kept him at PSG until 2025.
Mbappé, 25, departed PSG in May 2024 and subsequently signed with Real Madrid. He made an immediate impact with his new club, scoring on his debut for the Merengue on August 14. The resolution of the financial dispute now lies with the governing bodies to which Mbappé has appealed.
