Temeke Regional Referral Hospital (TRRH) officially launched a new dialysis ward and a specialized emergency vehicle for maternal and child care. The inauguration was led by Temeke District Commissioner, Hon. Sixtus Mapunda, on behalf of the Minister of Health, Hon. Ummy Mwalimu.
During the ceremony, Hon. Sixtus Mapunda conveyed greetings from the Minister of Health and highlighted that the new dialysis facility is a significant improvement for the hospital. This development will ease access to dialysis services for residents in and around Temeke, reducing the need for long-distance travel to seek such services.
Hon. Mapunda also emphasized the government's continued efforts to encourage citizens to engage in regular physical exercise and adopt healthier eating habits to combat the rising prevalence of non-communicable diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, and mental health issues.
Dr. Joseph Kimaro, the Chief Medical Officer of TRRH, reflected on the hospital's achievements since its establishment in 1970, noting a 98% success rate in ensuring the availability of essential medicines over the past 18 months. The hospital has also hired 120 contract healthcare workers in various specialties to enhance the quality of care, particularly in specialized medical services.
Dr. Kimaro expressed gratitude to the Tanzania Ports Authority (TPA) for contributing over 200 million Tanzanian shillings towards the major renovation of the dialysis ward. He also called on other stakeholders to support the improvement of healthcare services and to back President Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan's significant investments in the health sector, aimed at providing safe and quality healthcare to the public.
