Tanzanian Police Arrest Four Suspects in Dodoma Sexual Assault Case

The Tanzanian Police have arrested four out of six suspects involved in the brutal crime of gang rape and sodomy of a young girl, whose video was later circulated online. The incident, which occurred in Swaswa, Dodoma in May 2024, sparked widespread outrage after the video surfaced on social media in early August.

In a statement released on August 9, 2024, Police Spokesperson David Misime confirmed the arrest of the suspects in Dodoma and Pwani regions. The arrested individuals have been identified as Clinton Honest Damas, also known as "Nyundo," Praygod Edwin Mushi, Amini Lord Lema, and Nickson Idala Jackson.

The police are continuing their investigation and actively searching for the remaining two suspects who are still at large. Misime urged the public to report any information on the whereabouts of these individuals, warning that anyone found harboring the suspects would also face legal action.

The police investigation, which began after the video circulated on social media on August 2, 2024, has led to the identification and protection of the victim. She is currently in a safe location receiving the necessary care and support.

Additionally, the police have arrested four other individuals for allegedly creating and spreading false information online, including rumors that the victim had died and that her mother had passed away from shock. The suspects involved in spreading these false reports have been apprehended in Arusha and Dar es Salaam and have been named as Amos Lwiza, Adam Dongo, Venance Mallya, and Isack Elias.

The police continue to work diligently to bring all those responsible to justice and have reassured the public of their commitment to ensuring the safety and security of all citizens.
