A 2021 labor force survey revealed that out of the 14.6 million young people in Tanzania capable of working, 1.8 million, or 12%, remain unemployed. The issue is particularly acute among young women, with unemployment rates at 16.7%, compared to 8.3% for young men.
In response to this challenge, the Ministry of Livestock and Fisheries has allocated TZS 7.3 billion for the 2024/2025 fiscal year. These funds will be used to purchase equipment and provide loans to young graduates of the Building a Better Tomorrow (BBT) program, empowering them to start their own businesses in the livestock and fisheries sectors. This initiative, led by Ridhiwani Kikwete, the Minister of State in the Prime Minister's Office for Labor, Youth, Employment, and People with Disabilities, aims to address youth unemployment and foster self-employment opportunities.
