The Zanzibar House of Representatives’ Budget Committee has commended Presidents Samia Suluhu Hassan and Hussein Mwinyi for their efforts in expanding communication access across Tanzania.
Committee Chairperson Ms. Mwanaasha Juma lauded the improvements in communication infrastructure under the leadership of the two presidents, highlighting that these advancements have significantly benefited more Tanzanians.
During a recent visit to the Tanzania Telecommunications Corporation (TTCL) headquarters in Dar es Salaam, the committee expressed satisfaction with the effective use of government funds by TTCL for various development projects. The committee also recognized the strong partnership between TTCL and the Zanzibar Information Communication Technology Infrastructure Agency (ZICTIA).
Ms. Juma emphasized that their visit was aimed at understanding TTCL’s operations and finding solutions to the challenges facing the institution. The committee learned about the role of Zanzibar’s Ministry of Construction, Communication, and Transportation in overseeing ICT infrastructure, and how the Ministry of Information, Communication, and Information Technology on the mainland, through TTCL, is working to enhance communication services.
TTCL’s Director General, CPA Moremi Andrea, expressed appreciation for the committee's visit, stating that it provided an opportunity to showcase the corporation’s strategies and business plans. He affirmed TTCL's commitment to collaborating with Zanzibar counterparts to further strengthen the communication sector.
