Dr. Tulia Ackson, Speaker of the Tanzanian Parliament and President of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, has called on the youth to seize the unique opportunity to voice their opinions on the future they envision for Tanzania, aiming for a unified perspective for the next 25 years.
Dr. Tulia referenced the 2022 Population and Housing Census, which revealed that over 77% of Tanzanians are children and young people. She emphasized that the future of Tanzania is in the hands of its youth, particularly those aged 15-35, who constitute 34.5% of the population.“Young people must see this National Development Vision as their own and take the opportunity to provide input, advice, and contribute to the success of the Vision 2050. This Vision belongs to the youth,” Dr. Tulia stated.
Dr. Tulia, the guest of honor at the Southern Regional Conference, made these remarks today, Saturday, August 3, 2024, at Eden Highlands Hall in Mbeya. This event is part of the Ministry of Planning and Investment's ongoing efforts to gather public opinions as part of the preparation for drafting the new Development Vision 2050.
However, Dr. Tulia also stressed the importance of input from adults and elders, acknowledging their significant role in providing insights based on their experiences. Their contributions are vital in identifying past mistakes and inefficiencies, thereby ensuring a comprehensive and effective development plan.
This initiative reflects a collective endeavor to create an inclusive and forward-thinking vision that caters to the aspirations and needs of all Tanzanians, setting a solid foundation for sustainable growth and development.
