The Zanzibar House of Representatives Budget Committee, led by Chairperson Hon. Mwanaasha Khamis, visited the ongoing construction of Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) infrastructure and flyovers in Dar es Salaam. The projects, executed by the Tanzanian government through the Tanzania National Roads Agency (TANROADS), aim to alleviate traffic congestion in the city. The committee's visit was intended to gain knowledge and insights to apply to similar infrastructure developments currently underway in Zanzibar.
During the tour, Hon. Mwanaasha emphasized the necessity of building flyovers in Zanzibar to ease traffic congestion in various parts of the islands. She noted that learning from the mainland's successful projects is essential as Zanzibar embarks on its infrastructure development journey.
"In Zanzibar, we've recognized the need to construct flyovers to eliminate the traffic bottlenecks in several areas. This visit was crucial for us to observe and learn from the implementation of these projects on the mainland," Hon. Mwanaasha stated after the tour.
The Chairperson also expressed confidence that once the projects are completed in Zanzibar, they will significantly reduce traffic congestion, much like how the completed projects have benefited Tanzania's mainland.
Hon. Mwanaasha further conveyed her satisfaction with the progress of the projects in Dar es Salaam. She commended the efforts of the leaders from both sides of the Union for their vision and commitment to addressing infrastructure challenges that have long plagued citizens.
"We have seen the various stages our counterparts have reached in implementing these projects and how they have effectively reduced the severe traffic congestion. As a committee, we are pleased with the progress of both completed and ongoing projects," Hon. Mwanaasha remarked.
Hon. Mwanaasha concluded by extending her gratitude to the leaders, particularly President Samia Suluhu Hassan of the United Republic of Tanzania and President Dr. Hussein Ali Mwinyi of Zanzibar, for their foresight and dedication to improving road infrastructure, which continues to enhance the quality of life for their citizens.
The committee's visit highlights the collaborative spirit between the two regions, aiming to share best practices and enhance infrastructure development across the Union.
